As noted above, Jim is a Special Needs Financial Planner with the MetLife Center for Special Needs Planning. He is also a Financial Planner with MetLife Securities, Inc. and an Accredited Estate Planner (AEP). His degrees include a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Counseling and Guidance from Tufts University, a Master of Business Administration from Marymount University, and a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Naval Academy. Jim is also a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow, has a Certificate in Financial Planning from Florida Institute of Technology and a Certificate in Business Succession Planning from the American College.

Jim authored and implemented the U.S. Navy's Family Advocacy Program before his retirement from the Navy in 1984. He has been a workshop presenter at the NAMI, NDSS, and NORD National meetings. He is a frequent workshop presenter on Special Needs Planning in the Northern Virginia area. In addition to special needs planning, Jim's primary focus is on pre-retirement and retirement planning and estate planning.

Additional professional memberships include: the Northern Virginia Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Financial Planning Association, Northern Virginia Estate Planning Council, Vienna Rotary Club, and the Vienna-Tyson's Regional Chamber of Commerce. Jim and his wife of over 30 years, Maryanne, have four children and four grandchildren. They reside in Oakton, VA.
